Prince Harry shun royal family’s offer again Amid upcoming…
Prince Harry might be returning to the UK next week, but it seems unlikely he will reunite with the royal family amid their bitter feud.
The Duke of Sussex is due to travel to London to attend his High Court trial against News Group Newspapers. It’s believed Harry was offered a place to stay at Buckingham Palace but turned it down.
During his previous trip to the UK in September, Harry is believed to have again snubbed the royal family and stayed with his uncle Charles Spencer at Althorp in Northamptonshire, England. When Harry returns to the UK, it’s believed he will be given “limited police protection.”
The Duke of Sussex is set to be granted protection from the Metropolitan Police while attending the High Court hearings. Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley agreed to provide Harry with armed officers from the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command, according to a source.
Speaking to The Mirror, the source said, “He is offering Harry limited police protection. The Met has been trying to recruit officers on their days off because they don’t have a lot of spare staff.”
Harry’s UK visit comes after he lost a legal challenge last year over his right to police protection when visiting his home country. His security had been downgraded when he left the royal family in 2020.
Decisions over Harry’s security entitlement are now made on a case-by-case basis by the Metropolitan Police. This is the same procedure for other VIP visitors to the UK.
However, Harry claimed he was singled out in the 2020 decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures. The High Court ruled against him in March, stating Ravec’s ruling was not irrational.
The Home Office said it was pleased with the court’s finding, adding Harry’s security would be arranged on a perceived-risk basis. In June the Duke of Sussex was given the right to appeal the High Court ruling.
