Iga Swiatek got booed during her on-court interview at the Rod Laver Arena. The second seed blew away Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova 6-0, 6-2 in the second-round match to advance to the Round of 32 of the Melbourne Major.
However, there was a brief moment of drama during the Pole’s on-court interview with Jelena Dokic. Knowing that Swiatek was a coffee lover, Dokic asked her about her favorite coffee order. Swiatek replied that she had found better coffee in Sydney than in Melbourne. Hearing this answer, there were some loud boos in the stadium.
“Oh well, I gotta say in Sydney, I found better coffee shops?” said Swiatek during her on-court interview via X (formerly Twitter).
On hearing this the crowd immediately started to boo her. The Pole tactfully pacified the crowd, saying she had not done enough research to give her verdict regarding the coffee found in Australia. However, she clarified that Australian coffee was up to her liking.
“But no,no,no, guys, the thing is that also it’s not easy for me to asleep, so during a Grand Slam I’m kinda, you know, my coffee level needs to be a bit lower, I’m only drinking it before the match. So I didn’t do the right research, so sorry for my answer. But no, I mean overall I think, in Australia it’s hard to get wrong coffee, you know, like every coffee shop keeps like a really great quality.” added Swiatek via X (Formerly Twitter).
The Pole also revealed that “flat white on oat milk” was her favorite coffee order.
With her win, Swiatek set up a blockbuster clash with another Major champion, Emma Raducanu in the next round.
