The Australian Open gets underway this weekend, with Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka preparing to defend their titles.
Players have already arrived in Melbourne to prepare for the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Most notably, Andy Murray has been spotted coaching Novak Djokovic during his practice sessions. And the retired Brit is now set to return to the court himself after signing up to the pre-tournament ‘A Night with Novak’ event.
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios is in a race against time to be fit for his home Major after cancelling his own exhibition match with Djokovic due to an abdominal injury.
Kyrgios cancels match
While Andy Murray will be getting involved in the ‘A Night with Novak’ charity event, Nick Kyrgios won’t.
The former world No. 13 was set to face Novak Djokovic in a singles match to get the night started.
But he has now pulled out, raising fears that he won’t be ready for the Australian Open.
“Unfortunately won’t be able to play my good friend @djokernole this Thursday on the 9th as I’ve had an ultrasound on my abdominal and have a grade 1 strain,” Kyrgios wrote on Instagram.
“Will be resting and doing everything I can to be OK by the AusOpen.
Murray signs up for event
Novak Djokovic’s annual pre-Australian Open charity event is back for its third year.
A Night with Novak sees top stars join the 24-time Major champion on court for light-hearted singles and doubles matches.
Andy Murray – who only retired last August and is now coaching Djokovic – has signed up to play.
The three-time Major winner is set to get involved in a mixed doubles clash with Olympic champions Djokovic and Qinwen Zheng.
Djokovic and Murray will also join forces in a Paralympic doubles contest with Tokito Oda and Dylan Alcott.
